Personality 3 February 2017 Krzysztof Sadecki
When did you first come across the subject of wine and why did you choose the wine sector?
While studying for MBA International Business in the United States at the University of Esse in New York, I had the chance to meet a bunch of New York sommeliers and wine enthusiasts. It is they who infected me with the passion and love for wine.
Whilst in the United States you had the opportunity to observe the booming wine market. Is there anything in particular that caught your attention?
I was very surprised that the same wines in the United States are much cheaper than in Poland. Because of Poland’s geographical location in Europe, for reasons of logistics, even wine prices should be much lower than in the US. This raises the thought of how horrendous the margins on products imposed by Polish importers of wines must be?
Was it then that the idea of starting your own business came up? What ultimately does Star Wines Poland deal with?
Exactly. In 2012, Star Wines Poland was founded . Since the beginning the goal of the company has been importing wines directly from producers, so that the margin is low as possible. We also handle distribution and retailing on a nationwide scale. We also have one of the largest wine warehouses in Warsaw. In restaurants throughout the country you can drink wine imported by Star Wines Poland.
Star Portfolio Wines Poland is quite impressive. Is there a product that you particularly appreciate?
Star Wines Poland, indexes more than 450 wines from around the world. The exclusive Champagne Thienot is in its assortment which also includes, which is now the official champagne gala of the Oscars. Yes, it is a reason to be proud.
Where can we savor the imported wines of Star Wines Poland?
You can enjoy the products imported by Star Wines Poland at most of the top restaurants and hotels in the country. The lowest margins, the exclusive import of products from the world’s most famous vineyards and wines of Piedmont’s most famous manufacturer or Vietti, has ensured that Star Wines can be found in the award-winning and respected restaurants like Amber Room Signature (H15), Thai Thai at the National Theatre Academy and Sheraton Gdańsk, or the Polish Business Council.
What is the most important thing for you in your business?
Conducting this type of business is not just having a good product. Customer service, continuity of supply and the continuous availability of products is also important. For me, the most important is the customer and his satisfaction and the cooperation with us.
What Is your plan for the development of Star Wines Poland?
Increasing the offer of wines so that every customer, whether retail, restaurant or hotel can always find something for himself, something that no other restaurant nearby can offer. The development plan is also based on opening stores in every major city in Poland. Over the next two years, our stores will open in Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Lodz and another in Warsaw, where one of the stores will be in conjunction with the Wine Bar which plans to open later this year.
Don’t you think that such rapid growth can be deadly?
Yes, every business along with its development takes further risks. Nevertheless, I believe that if rapid development is properly controlled and monitored in detail, then the risk is minimal. My father taught me that in life if we see a potential, we need to always take advantage of it in an appropriate manner and if we have the appropriate resources to do so, I just do it. I love doing what I do, besides my family, it is important to me and if I saw that things do not go my way this guarantees that it is quickly repaired. Quick response is essential for each development, particularly when, as you said, it is at such a rapid pace
